Trainers will say to the group:
Welcome to session 2 of the ConnecTeen Program. What is something you remember from last session or want to share about your home assignment?
*If you have 1 hour let the students share experiences from doing their home assignment.
Trainer: This session will focus on self-esteem and self-confidence. It is important to know that Self-confidence and self-esteem are related but different: Self-confidence is believing in your abilities and feeling capable of handling situations.
Example: “I know I can play football well.” Self-esteem is how much you value and appreciate yourself as a person—your sense of self-worth.
Example: “I feel good about who I am and think positively about myself.”
Part 1: Brainstorming Self-confidence & selfconfidence – Time: 8 min
Instructions for Trainers: One brainstorming for each phrase. Remember to write exactly what the students say, and do not rewrite them in your own personal interpretation.
Write on a flipchart, whiteboard or digitally. Invite the students to brainstorm freely everything they associate with Self-confidence and then Self-esteem.
Part 2: Brainstorming Self-confidence & selfExercise / Pippi & Eminem – Time: 20 min
Background information and theory for trainer (not to be shared with the class): The foundation of this exercise is the belief that everyone is fundamentally the same, which helps foster bonding and connection within the group. Every individual is equally worthy—no one is better or more valuable than another. This means comparison is unnecessary and unhelpful. While we all share the same core qualities and skills, we express them in unique ways that shape our individual personalities. Understanding this helps promote respect, empathy, and a sense of unity among participants.
Step by step:
- Show them the picture of PIPPI* on the Power Point
- Brainstorming: What do you know about Pippi Longstocking? Let everyone say something. If the group has a hard time answering the question, ask; what does she do? Write the activities below the name Pippi on a flipchart that is divided down the middle.
- Next, ask: What qualities does she have? Write the qualities on a flipchart below the activities. Remember to divide the flipchart down the middle; Pippi on the left side and Eminem* on the right side.
- Show them the picture of Eminem on Power Point.
- Brainstorming: What do you know about Eminem. Let everyone say something. If the group has a hard time answering the question, ask; what does he do? Write the activities below the name Eminem on a flipchart to the right of Pippi.
- Next, ask: What qualities does he have? Write the qualities on a flipchart below the activities, just as described above.
When the brainstorming of both pictures is done, have the group look at the flipchart and see what is written on both halves of the paper.

- Ask the group to name the qualities both characters have. Draw connecting lines from Pippi’s qualities to Eminem’s qualities.
- Then say: We all have the same qualities and skills; we express them in different ways. This creates our personality. How will you express your qualities?
- Tell the students to choose a (new) quality from Pippi and Eminem that they resonate with and write it down in their books.
IMPORTANT: The trainers are free to choose characters from their own country if the students do not know PIPPI Longstocking and Eminem
